Brave little bird, wandering on the shore, ekes out a joyous life, among sand and waves and more. Such an illusion we some of us live in. I watch the shore birds scurry here and there among the shells and surf. I watch them scamper back and forth, darting here and there to snatch a morsel of food from the wet sand. It all seems so simple, and I envy them that simplicity, that seeming innocent life.
It's easy to ignore the reality of their lives while walking in the warm sun of a Sunday morning, even as I work to mentally escape the troubles and tribulations of my 'human existence'. Yes, I have a mortgage, a car payment, doctors and dentists to see, work to deal with, aches and pains and disappointment. What of a little bird upon the shore?
The little bird must constantly hunt for its food. Stop hunting, starve to death. Stop moving, get eaten. A daily routine of avoiding the crushing feet of unaware joggers, the fangs of unleashed dogs, the chaotic ambulations of toddlers, to say nothing of the NATURAL dangers surrounding them. Yes, it's nice to see the graceful dancing upon the shore, but I think I will resist that desire to trade places...
